TREBES
Trèbes is a mediaeval village on the historic Canal du Midi, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
It also lies at the confluence of the Aude and Orbiel rivers, just downstream of the famous citadel of Carcassonne. The Mediterranean beaches are 40 minutes to the east.
Surrounded by vineyards the town has always been an important centre for the wine trade.
Today, it is a bustling little town catering to Canal users and local vignerons - a peaceful haven compared to crowded Carcassonne.
